How has remote work has directed us into the amazing world of the Digital Workplace?

The Covid-19 pandemic caused a major transition in the global work economy in 2020. While working from home used to be a luxury offered by some companies, it has now become the norm for most.

When we didn’t have any experience with remote work, it was a fantasy for many people. It was even more difficult to implement remote work before March 2020. People believed that working remotely may provide a number of advantages in terms of balancing personal and professional obligations.

Though some companies attempted to implement and test the work from home strategy, it proved to be a failure in the long run, and they eventually returned to the office. Now when I think about what caused them to return to their former working style (working from offices), I believe it was due to a lack of useful tools and software.

We are in the twenty-first century, and we can clearly see that everything is digitalized and that technology has advanced significantly. People began to make better use of their time and learned to distinguish between living and working; they realized the importance of striking a balance between work and personal life.

We were imprisoned inside our houses since the COVID-19 virus broke out; we hardly ventured outside; we saw our loved ones leave us; we realized the worth of life. This has taught us many lessons in life, most notably the importance of valuing every single moment and the simple things that surround us.

It’s been over two years since the ‘new normal’ began, and some companies have begun to accept remote working on a permanent basis. Though working from home is beneficial to some employees and companies, other people are still uncomfortable staying inside four walls, working without a schedule, without mingling with coworkers, and with a lack of productivity. If you were to ask me, I would always say that I prefer to work from the office with my coworkers.

However, due to the virus’s extensive spread and other variants such as ‘Omicron,’ working from home is the only option. Working from home is still difficult for me because I am not a stay-at-home person. But, since nothing can be done and I’ve been working remotely for about 15 months, there are a few tools that keep me going and help me stay productive even when I lose track.

To keep my team updated and to communicate with them, I use Kissflow digital workplace tool to make announcements, make informed decisions, share files, and collaborate well with my team.

I often work on more than one project at a time and now that we are all aware of the ultimate fact that everyone is a project manager with or without a degree, it is obvious that most of the remote workers use project management tools to manage projects, their works, to track the progress of the tasks and even to monitor them. I use Kissflow collaborative project management tool to manage my work.

And apart from these major tools, I also use tools such as google meet, zoom calls, google calendar, Microsoft tools, and many others to get my work done.

Coming to the point. ‘Is remote work the future?’

In some cases, remote work is really being helpful but I personally do not think that it will be cherished in the long run. Ironically, working remotely can put barriers to showcase people’s skills and their talent and that also results in less social interaction which is a great no-nothing of all time.

But yeah, if remote work is going to be the only option that will be left for us in the future, we can still make it happen with great tools and with proper communication.
